  • TOA: Session 3

The Party heads down the River Tiryki from Port Nyanzaru in hopes of finding Kir Sabal; the city of the Aarakocra bird people who might know the location of the lost city of Omu.

    Day 3
A group of 8 Dimetrodons notice the party’s canoe and look as though they are about to attack. Through clever diversions, the dinosaurs are distracted and the party is allowed to move on.

    Day 4
In the evening the party detects a group of ‘humanoids’ watching from afar. The watchers withdraw without confrontation. It is not know who the watchers were or why they were spying on the party.

    Day 5
It’s hot and raining, but otherwise uneventful.

    Day 6
A clump of 10 zombies attacks the party. The zombies are not successful.

    Day 7
The party sees the spire of Firefinger off to the East of the River Tiryki. This is the place where Azaka wants to raid with help from the party in hopes of finding her ancestral mask, so the group leaves the river and approaches the tower.
Pterafolk fly in circles above and around the tower looking for targets to attack, so the party waits until nightfall in order avoid detection. They find evidence of previous victims of the Pterafolk who appear to have been dropped from a great height.
The tower appears to have 4 levels connected by rickety ladders. The tower’s peak is ~300’ high.

    • Level 1: The party crosses through a shallow pit to reach further into the tower and disturb a group of 4 giant wolf spiders who fail to stop the party’s advance. A climbable chimney leads to level 2
    • Level 2: The level seems to be abandoned as well until a flock of 10 strikes meekly try to overtake the party. An adventure’s long dead body is fond with 15gp, a gold and carnelian ring (60gp each), and two onyx figures depicting chwingas (50gp each). A level exits out onto a ledge leading to a scary looking ladder that connects to the third level.

    Treasures:

    • 15gp
    • a gold and carnelian ring (60gp each)
    • two onyx figures depicting chwingas (50gp each)
  • TOA: Session 2

    Day 2
The party meets with Jessamine who:

    • Heads what is considered the assassins’ guild in Port Nyanzaru
    • Is under the death curse herself

She asks someone from the party to participate in that day’s Dinosaur races in an effort to prevent ‘Big Honker’(T-Rex) from winning the race. If they accomplish this, Jessamine will reward the party with 100 gp.

Zalmy rides ’Ubtao’s Favorite’(Triceratops) in the no-holds bared race against Big Honker and 3 other beasts. Big Honker performs particularly badly and Zalmy not only prevents him from winning, but is the winner himself. (winning 50 gp in additional to the 100 gp from Jessamine)

Shortly after the race, two Allosaurus’ go wild with black eyes, breaking free of their cages and attacking a priest hiding behind some boxes that the dinosaurs are quickly breaking through. The party leaps to his rescue and quickly kills the wild beasts before they can hurt the priest.

The priest thanks the party and introduces himself as Father Zitembe, the head priest of the Temple of Savras. (Savras = god of wizards and fortune tellers) As a reward he offers to perform a ritual to help find the location of Soul Monger. (the source of the death curse)

His ritual reveals that the Soul Monger is likely in the lost city of Omu, located far to the south… or so he thinks… the city has been lost for more than 100 years.

    Omg History from Father Zitembe:
    – Once was the jewel of Chult
    – 200 years ago, their god, Ubtao, turned his back on them due to their greed and hubris
    – Priests lost spells and disease wrecked the city. It became the ‘forbidden city’.
    – The city turned to worshipping 9 trickster gods
    – 100 years ago ‘a darkness fell on the city’ and it disappeared (this happened within a decade after the undead army was raised by Ras Nsi that now plagues Chult that was discussed previously)

The party returns to the Inn as the day grows late. Azaka (their guide) informs them that maybe the Aarakacra bird people in the temple of Kir Sabal might still know how to get to Omu. So the plan is the head in that direction.

Volo, of ’Volo’s Guide to Monster’ is in the inn promoting his book, which the party buys for 50 gp. (gives advantage on knowledge monsters going forward [house rule])

A young lady names Xandala approaches the party asking for help in finding her father, the adventurer Artus Cimber, who went missing in Chult 6 months ago. She asks for the party to send word back to Port Nyanzaru if they learn anything.

  • TOA: Session 1

    Welcome to Chult

Syndra has learned through the Harpers that the death curse is being caused by something called the ‘Soulmonger’ and that is it is somewhere in Chult; a massive unexplored jungle region far to the south.

After some shopping and inventory management in Baldur’s Gate, the party meets with Syndra Silvane about a task that she would like them to complete. They learn that a death curse is affecting the world. It is a wasting disease affecting anyone who has been raised from the dead. Victims get thinner and weaker each day. Efforts to raise anyone from the dead no longer work under the effects of this death curse.

The party is asked to go to Chult and try to learn more about this Soulmonger and stop the death curse before she succumbs to its effects and dies(again). If they succeed, she offers each party member a rare or uncommon magic item of their choice[…with DM approval ;)]

The party agrees and Syndra teleports them to Port Nyanzaru in the north of Chult. There they meet the port master Zindar, a half gold dragon who directs them find a guide from among the ones he points out on the ‘guide message board’ near the harbor master’s office. (coincidentally, someone can ALSO become a half dragon through a ritual performed while bathing in dragon blood. ‘Sex’ is probably the more common cause half-dragon-ness though) Syndra leaves them to prepare for their quest, telling them that she will be staying with the merchant prince Wakanga O’Tamu in the Merchant Ward.

Reviewing the available guides and after much deliberation, they decide upon Azaka Stormfang, an experienced (licensed) guide who would also like the party to help her regain a mask that was stolen by Pterafolk and nest at a place called Firefinger. If the party succeeds in this quest, Azaka will waive her 5 gp/day fee.

On the way to the inn, horns blare throughout the city indicating a wave of undead have emerged from the jungle and are attacking the city’s outskirts that are outside the fortifying wall. A group of people were trapped in a church outside the wall so the group heroically came to the their rescue; attack a group of skeletons, zombies, and a ghoul to free them. This drew the notice of one of the city guards who gave the party a token to meet with one of the city’s merchant princes, Jessamine.

Finally at the Inn, the party met with their guide Azaka and settled on arrangements for their expedition into the jungle.

Other random information that was learned and/or things that citizens of this world would know:

    • Chult History: 100 years ago a fallen paladin, Ras Nsi, in the now-lost Chultian city of Mezro, raised an army of undead to try and take over the world. It didn’t work out and he disappeared, leaving his undead army to fend for themselves. As a result, a majority of the inner areas of Chult are unexplored and overrun by undead. (no the death curse is not affecting the undead… based on the name, ‘Soulmonger’ probably only works on ‘souls’)
    • Chult is hot and humid all the time. Weather is ~95F during the day and 75F at night. It rains almost at least once every day (even if only for an hour in the afternoon)
    • Additional Common races in Chult:
      • Aarakocra: Good bird folk. Intelligent.
      • Pterafolk: Bad pterodactyl-like people. Primitive.
      • Tabaxi: Cat people. Were historically slaves in Chult. Are now fee, but often very poor.
    • Port Nyanzaru is the only civilized city in Chult.
    • Dinosaurs are common in Chult and are used as beasts of burden within Port Nyanzaru. They are even used in races for betting.
    • Port Nyanzaru is ruled by a group of seven ‘Merchant Princes’. The qualifications for the merchant princes is simply that they are the seven richest people in Port Nyanzaru. Their alignments vary wildly.

    Things to do:

    • Meet with Jessamine the merchant prince
    • See dinosaur races
    • Finish buying any supplies. Water catchers and bug repellent have been recommended.
    • Try and learn more about Chult and the Soulmonger so the party has an idea of where to focus their search.
    • Meet with Syndra and Wakanga before leaving
    • Go to Firefinger and get dat mask
